Volvo Trucks Malaysia get new MD

KUALA LUMPUR: Volvo Trucks has appointed Tony O’Connell as its new managing director for Volvo Trucks Malaysia effective Feb 1.
O’Connell who was previously vice president (sales) for Volvo Trucks Australia, took over from Mitch Peden, who served from 2018 - 2020.
He joined the Volvo Group in 2005 and after several stints in project management and business development, shouldered the VP (Sales), Australia position in 2018.
"He will inherit and continue to lead the dedicated and competent Volvo Trucks team in the region to further cement its position as the market leader in the premium commercial vehicle sector,” the company said in a statement.
Volvo Trucks first entered the Malaysian market in 1969 under Federal Auto Industrial Sdn Bhd, a year after its Swedish Motor Assemblies plant began operations in the country.
For the past five decades, Volvo Trucks has been expanding its footprint through launching new truck models and opening more dealerships across Malaysia.
Currently, the company offers heavy duty trucks under the Volvo umbrella mainly made up of Volvo FM, Volvo FMX and the Volvo FH in various specifications.
