KUALA LUMPUR: Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) and Wei-Ling Gallery have managed to successfully raise RM133,200 from the charity auction of Arteon art cars.

The auction was held at W Kuala Lumpur hotel to celebrate the launch of the new Arteon R Line.

Proceeds from the auction will be donated to Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia (BCWA) after a minimum token of appreciation has been presented to each of the 13 Malaysian artists for their contribution.

The collaboration provided an opportunity for collectors and art enthusiasts to own diecast scale models of the Arteon which were transformed by artists into unique one-of-a-kind artworks.

The Arteon is Volkswagen’s flagship model and the range-topping Arteon R-Line variant is currently priced on-the-road without insurance with sales tax exemption (until Dec 31) at RM220,043.

The Arteon R-Line is covered by a five-year unlimited mileage warranty which includes three years of free maintenance and five years of roadside assistance.

The Arteon project was an extension of the recent “18@8 Turning Points” exhibition by Wei-Ling Gallery and was curated with the idea to explore the 13 artists’ pasts.

“It was truly heartening to see Art and Arteon come together at the auction, and to witness how much the bidders recognised the value of owning such collectible art pieces. Their enthusiasm stemmed from their desire to contribute to charity, in this case, breast cancer awareness and support,” said VPCM  managing director Erik Winter.
