VW launches all-new Transporter at Hanover trade show
By CARSIFU | 16 September 2024HANOVER: Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles unveiled on Sunday the all-new, seventh-generation Transporter at the IAA Transportation 2024 here, marking a significant evolution of its iconic product line.
Running until Sept 22, the event offers visitors a first look at the revamped Transporter and Caravelle, which now boast increased space, payload capacity, and advanced safety features.
The latest Transporter lineup introduces plug-in hybrid and all-electric powertrains, marking a first in the model's 75-year history.
These options complement the existing range of turbocharged diesel engines.
The redesigned models are available in various configurations including panel van, crewbus, and Caravelle versions, catering to both commercial and passenger transport needs.
The Caravelle, a nine-seater designed for commercial passenger transport, also debuts in three trim levels: entry-level, mid-range Life, and the top-tier Style.
Volkswagen's strategy of providing "the right Bulli for every customer" continues with the Transporter, Multivan, and the fully electric ID. Buzz.
The Transporter serves as the pure commercial workhorse, while the Multivan caters to recreational and business needs.
Meanwhile, the ID. Buzz stands out as an electric icon, completing the most diverse lineup in its class.
The Transporter's cockpit combines digital displays with traditional hardkeys, creating an ergonomic and user-friendly workspace. Multiple USB, 12V, and 230V sockets are included, enhancing practicality, especially for the plug-in hybrid and electric models.
In terms of capability, the new panel van offers a maximum payload of up to 1.33 tonnes and an increased trailer weight capacity of up to 2.8 tonnes. Load volumes range from 5.8m³ in the standard version to 9.0m³ with a high roof and extended wheelbase.
The new Transporter lineup includes seven powertrain options: three turbocharged diesel engines (TDI) with outputs of 109hp, 148hp, and 168hp; a plug-in hybrid (eHybrid) with 229hp; and three electric versions delivering 134hp, 215hp, and 282hp with a 64kWh Li-ion battery.
The TDI models offer both manual and automatic gearbox options, with the more powerful engines available with all-wheel drive.
Meanwhile, an advertising campaign for the new Transporter has Hollywood star Jason Statham appearing as the face of the campaign.
Jason is known from the cult film series "The Transporter".
