Wawa and IONNA collaborate: Expand EV charging network in USA

LOS ANGELES: Popular convenience store chain Wawa will collaborate in installing EV (electric vehicle) charging points with IONNA, a joint venture founded by eight of the world’s biggest automakers, BMW, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, Stellantis and Toyota.

Wawa is popular as an all day, every day stop for freshly prepared foods, beverages, coffee, fuel services and surcharge-free ATMs.

Wawa stores are located in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Florida, North Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, Ohio, Indiana and Washington, D.C., with more than 1,100 locations to date.

Marking IONNA’s single largest EV charging commitment to date, the addition of charging points at Wawa brings IONNA closer to the goal of 30,000 bays by 2030.

The first of many charging points at Wawa will open next week at W. International Speedway, Daytona Beach, Florida.

EV charging points at other Wawa locations are already under construction in:

- Bradenton, Florida
- Pensacola, Florida
- Orlando, Florida

“Next week’s opening of the IONNA Rechargery at Wawa in Daytona Beach will bring our total bay count to 212 live and 3,064 contracted. That is over 10% contracted to our 2030 live bay goal in just over a year,” said IONNA CEO Seth Cutler.

“As we continue to expand our EV services, we are thrilled to provide our customers with a one-stop for fresh food, beverages and EV charging!,” said Wawa chief fuel officer Rich Makin.
