IT was simply too hard an offer to pass up when Aeson Power Malaysia reached out to a number of the media to have their sodium-ion automotive batteries tested.
The advantages they offer over your standard lead-acid batteries are quite substantial.
Based on polyanion cathode material technology, their batteries are lighter and is said to support ultra-fast charging – as fast as 0% to 100% in 40 minutes, high-rate discharge for powerful starts, extended cycle life, a wide operating temperature range, ultra-low self-discharge, and strong vibration resistance.
The batteries which are priced from RM369 onwards are also highly resilient to over-discharge with the ability to recover rapidly even when fully discharged to zero volts.
Its cycle life is said to be three times that of traditional lead-acid batteries in addition to minimal degradation at high temperatures.
Starting performance is two to three times greater than that of lead-acid due to its ultra-low internal resistance, while its peak current exceeds three times that of lead-acid in the first 0.3 seconds.
It also has a wide operating voltage range (6–14V) that allows vehicles to start even at 10.5V – compared to lead-acid batteries that typically fail below 12V.
