SHANGHAI: Xiaomi's CEO Lei Jun said today that the firm plans to hold an official launch event for its new YU7 electric sports utility vehicle on Thursday, where it is expected to announce pricing and start taking orders.
Lei made the announcement on his Weibo account. Xiaomi earlier announced specifications for its second EV model in May.
The YU7 follows last year’s SU7 sedan and is built on the same Modena platform.
Production is under way at Xiaomi’s EV facility in Beijing, with deliveries scheduled to begin in July.

The 4.8-metre long SUV has a fastback design with increased ground clearance and rear headroom. It will compete with models such as the Tesla Model Y.
Powertrain choices include a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup with up to 365 kW, while a more powerful 508 kW version has been tested. It runs on an 800V electrical system using CATL and BYD batteries.
Inside, it features a 16.1-inch screen, HyperOS, Snapdragon 8295 chip, and Nvidia Drive Orin for L2+ autonomy.
Media reports indicate pricing is expected to start from 245,900 yuan (RM147,000). — Additional details from other sources
