KUALA LUMPUR: Hong Leong Yamaha Motor (HLYM) has launched the Yamaha YZF-R9, which is the flagship model of the R-Series.
It will be available starting January 2027 at all authorised Yamaha Blu Universe dealers in one exciting colour, Icon Blu, at a recommended retail price of RM68,000 (excluding insurance and registration fees).
It is powered by a 890cc, liquid-cooled, DOHC inline three-cylinder engine, delivering 87.5kW at 10,000rpm and 93Nm of torque at 7,000rpm.
Weighing just 9.7kg, the YZF-R9’s gravity-cast aluminium Deltabox frame is Yamaha’s lightest aluminium frame ever used for a Yamaha Supersport model.

Designed to balance flexibility and rigidity, it delivers lightweight construction and precise supersport handling.
An optimised riding position and wider body contact points allow riders of different builds to move freely on the bike.
The result is an accessible riding position that offers excellent handling and comfort even at everyday riding speeds.
Lightweight and rigid Brembo Stylema front brake calipers deliver precise braking control, stability and a consistent feel, particularly during prolonged use and heavy braking.
The YZF-R9 has specifically tuned KYB suspension components, including the new 43mm KYB fully adjustable inverted front forks and rear shock that provide highly precise damping, responsive suspension and enhanced stability.

Inspired by Yamaha’s MotoGP technology and developed through extensive wind tunnel testing, downforce winglets reduce front end lift and improve contact with the road thus enhancing front-end stability.
Equipped with a high-tech six-axis IMU, the YZF-R9 features lean-sensitive rider aids, including Traction Control, Slide Control, Lift Control and Brake Control.
Yamaha Ride Control allows riders to customise settings to suit various riding conditions, while the race-inspired Launch Control enables rapid and efficient acceleration from a standstill.
Meanwhile, the Y-TRAC Rev app when paired with Y-Connect linked to the motorcycle, offers lap time measurement, riding data analysis and a virtual pit board that allows riders to review past logs to track progress and improve future rides, while receiving real-time instructions from team members on the meter display.

The free plan has a storage limit, with the oldest ride data automatically deleted when exceeded, while the paid plan offers unlimited riding data storage.
The five-inch full-colour TFT display features four selectable themes and a dedicated ‘Track’ mode which displays track riding information including a lap timer.
It also presents essential riding information, including fuel level and consumption, coolant temperatures and gear position.
Customers can also customise the display according to their preferences.
