BMW goes beyond connecting drivers to the road

The BMW 5 Series is always readily identifiable as an executive sports sedan that offers a plethora of luxury, technology and safety amenities to go along with its performance.

Under the hood, the BMW 5 Series is powered exclusively by BMW TwinPower Turbo engines for both diesel and petrol variants.

The turbodiesel BMW 520d is the more affordable of the lot, currently priced at RM354,800 on-the-road (OTR) without insurance and inclusive of BMW Service + Repair Inclusive (BS + RI).

Its diesel engine provides 184hp / 380Nm to the rear wheels with fuel consumption figures of an impressive 4.5L/100km on the combined cycle and despite being a diesel engine, the BMW 520d can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 7.9 seconds with a top speed of 231km/h, and has a low CO2 emission of a mere 119 grams per km.

In the petrol spectrum, it’s the BMW 520i that makes the entry at RM369,800 OTR without insurance inclusive of BS+RI, and sends the same amount of horses to the rear (184hp) as its diesel counterpart to the rear wheels but is down by 110Nm at 270Nm, while fuel consumption is rated higher at 6.2L/100km on the combined cycle.

Enter the range-topping BMW 528i M Sport, priced at RM419,800 OTR without insurance inclusive of BS+RI, its 2.0-litre turbocharged engine produces 245hp and 350Nm and is comparatively similar in terms of fuel consumption at 6.5L/100km.

The BMW Service + Repair Inclusive (BS +RI) comes complimentary with all new BMW vehicles acquired from any BMW Authorised Dealer and covers professional service, maintenance and repair for 3 years or 60,000km with the assurance that only Original BMW Parts will be used to ensure reliability, safety and quality.

In addition, the Service programme covers normal wear-and-tear repairs or replacements of Original BMW Parts as specified by the Condition Based Service (CBS) system in the vehicle, while the Repair programme takes care of repairs of factory fitted mechanical and electrical components.

The BMW 5 Series is often seen as a market leader that resets the benchmark with its BMW EfficientDynamics - increasing performance and efficiency simultaneously, while BMW ConnectedDrive is the company’s innovative way to stay connected while on the road.

It is in this day and age that society is continuously looking for ways to stay connected and BMW has provided its solutions to help its owners do so, allowing them to search for destinations, keeping in touch, entertainment and social networking options.

The German automaker boasts that its BMW 5 Series is by far the best-connected automobile in the country thanks to its BMW ConnectedDrive Apps Interface, which enables integration with the BMW Connected App.

Via a smartphone, the BMW Apps menu provides access to web radio and social networking sites, such as Facebook and Twitter.

The newly designed iDrive Touch Controller, included as standard in the new BMW 5 Series, has been ergonomically improved which allows for a more intuitive input.

This makes navigating through BMW’s latest Navigation System Professional that’s capable of displaying 3D maps, even more effortless.

Last but not least, the BMW 5 Series - specifically the BMW 528i M Sport, maintains use of the ever popular Head-Up Display, which can provide other display options including navigation information, songs list, display of radio stations and on-board computer warnings.

With driving information becoming a necessity, BMW’s latest innovation addresses just that with the car maker’s all-new 10.25-inch BMW Multifunctional Instrument Display integrated into the iconic dual-circular instrument cluster.

The new instrument cluster has been further enhanced by increasing the font size of the numbers closest to the rev-counter and speedometer needles for added readability when in classic display mode.

Three different modes and their specific features can be displayed in the instrument cluster, with adapted colouring and graphics in each case: Comfort, ECO PRO and Sport mode.

Depending on the selected driving mode, drivers may customise the classic four circular displays (fuel gauge, speedometer, tachometer and oil temperature) to show various styles, positions and also individual preferences such as status and function displays.

In Comfort mode, the instrument cluster takes on the classic black background with white numerals and red needles, but with it being an LCD panel, the numeral’s font are magnified as the needles pass for better visibility and legibility.

Meanwhile, in ECO PRO mode the tachometer shows an EfficientDynamics display, which includes an indicator to depict the efficiency of the current driving style.

Lastly, in Sport mode, the display takes on a red / white colour combination with the speedometer adopting a digital format and the current gear indicator prominently displayed at the centre of the tachometer.

Currently, BMW is offering an attractive financing plan for its BMW 5 Series from as low as RM2,788 per month as well as an extension of its BS + RI to five years. Terms and conditions apply.
