CarSifu Auto Show is happening right now at 1Utama, Petaling Jaya

PETALING JAYA: Those shopping for new cars should visit the CarSifu Auto Show that’s held from today to April 2 at the Highstreet concourse area of the 1Utama Shopping Centre.

With BMW, Citroen, Isuzu, Kia, MINI and Peugeot putting up their popular range of cars on display, car shoppers will have plenty of opportunities and time to get up close with their prospective buys.

BMW will be showing off its X1 SDrive sport activity vehicle (SAV) as well as the ultra eco-friendly plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) - the 330e Sport.

As compact as the X1 SAV might seem, drivers are ensure of a commanding view, 56cm of rear leg room and plenty of practicality for an activity-filled day out on city roads - or off it.

Although the 330e is a PHEV, it doesn’t mean that its road-holding abilities have been dulled and new owners will not only experience significant fuel-savings when driving in electric mode, but also dolops of rear-wheel driving performance that’s synonymous with the German carmaker in Munich.

At Citroen’s stand, there will be the new sporty DS5 and the C4 Picasso multi-purpose vehicle (MPV).

Probably one of the most chic-looking vehicles at the show, the new DS5 has helped expand the premium MPV segment’s offerings with its aerospace-inspired design cues and plenty of the latest technologies that’s housed within an aerodynamic silhouette.

Although not as futuristic, the C4 Picasso still holds on to convention, but touched with unconventional features such as a the uncluttered loft-style interior ambience, zenith windscreen and slim LED daytime-running lights to suggest modernity.

Isuzu will be displaying its limited edition seven-seater mu-X Type S sports utility vehicle (SUV) and D-Max Z-Prestige as well as its V-Cross pickup truck variants.

The 2.5-litre turbodiesel engine with VGS and 320Nm of torque powers the mu-X Type S SUV which is an enhanced version that comes with more premium goodies such as keyless-entry with push-start button, 8.0-inch audio display system and rich leather upholstery.

A trio of lifestyle-oriented D-Max Z-Prestige will also make the display consisting of the elegant Silky White Pearl, rugged Stallion Black and the adventurous Velvet Red Mica.

Each comes with their own colour coordinated themes and a choice of either a 2.5 or 3.0-litre (V-Cross) turbodiesel engine, while paired with premium and exclusive features.

Meanwhile, MINI have the Clubman S and 3 Door S for its fans to get more closely acquainted with.

The Clubman S pairs practicality with its go-kart-like handling, thanks to the split rear doors, and is able to reach 100kph from stanstill in 7.1 seconds beofre reaching a top speed of 228kph.

The 3 Door S is the “hotter” hatch of the two with its compact dimensions, rigid body and the assurance of no shortage of fun from this particular front-wheel driven 2.0-litre turbocharged MINI.

Peugeot will have the new 208 hatchback and the new 2008 SUV alongside the 408 executive sedan at its booth.

The 208 and 2008 get Peugeot’s latest 1.2-litre PureTech turbocharged engine (winner of the International Engine of the Year Awards 2016) that combines power and fuel economy in a compact package.

For every 100km, the 208 needs just 4.5-litres of fuel, which should take it past the 1,000km mark per tank.

The French carmaker’s 2008 crossover that’s been fitted with numerous premium features from the high-end audio system, gadget connectivity and safety features.

But if its an executive sedan that’s preferred, then the 408 should be considered, which comes available in 2.0-litre, 1.6-litre turbocharged or 1.6-litre eTHP turcbocharged guises offering plenty of style, space, practicality, performance and a plethora of equipment.

With all vehicles gifted with Peter Schreyer’s trademark ‘Tiger Nose’ grille, the KIA brand has been well-known for being feature-packed and affordably priced, just like the latest generation Grand Carnival MPV, Sportage SUV and Cerato sedan.

The stylish eight-seater Carnival 2.2D EX and KX MPV is big on cabin space, comfort levels and features, which will be most appreciated over a long journey and quickly noticed after a short one.

The new Carnival has managed to garner impressive accolades such as the JD Power Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) award, Top Safety Pick from the US Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the 2015 Ward’s 10 Best Interiors award.

For the more active there’s also the mid-sized Sportage SUV that blends style, comfort and features.

The Cerato, on the other hand, will have owners feeling that they’ve gotten more bang for their buck, especially when there are features such as the smart trunk, keyless entry, rear air-conditioning vents, six airbags and driver’s seat ventilation to name a few.

Some of these cars will be made available for test drives on a route around Bandar Utama.

The auto show will also have three Sharp high definition televisions and 10 Sharp car ion generators to be won.
