BYD Seal and Dolphin get top marks in Euro NCAP safety tests

SHENZHEN: The BYD Seal and Dolphin have received five-star safety ratings from Euro NCAP.

The D-segment Seal sedan showed exceptional active and passive safety features, thanks to BYD's CTB (Cell to Body) technology. The C-segment Dolphin hatchback also performed well in adult and child occupant protection.

Euro NCAP's star safety rating system helps consumers compare vehicles and choose the safest option.

Both the Seal and Dolphin received 5-star awards after being assessed in four categories: adult occupant protection, child occupant protection, safety assistance, and protection for vulnerable road users.

BYD's build quality and technology played a key role in achieving the maximum test result.

The vehicles are equipped with BYD's new generation e-Platform 3.0, which includes an integrated 8-in-1 electric powertrain and the ultra-safe Blade Battery.

The e-Platform 3.0 features a "multi-load path" structure that absorbs energy in the event of a collision, minimizing impact on the passenger cabin.

The vehicles also have a reinforced body structure with high torsional rigidity, providing enhanced passenger protection.

The Seal, for example, has a torsional stiffness similar to a supercar. During the safety test, this quality resulted in an excellent score for adult occupant protection. The CTB technology also ensures stability in the passenger compartment during a collision and offers protection against whiplash injuries.

In child occupant protection tests, both vehicles performed well, minimizing impact to critical body areas. The vehicles also received praise for their protection of vulnerable road users, thanks to features like the autonomous emergency braking system and the system that warns against opening doors when a cyclist is approaching.

The Dolphin achieved a maximum score in the Euro NCAP Safety Test, with high scores in adult and child occupant protection. The vehicle's safety assist systems, including Intelligent Speed Limit Assist and Lane Keeping Assist, also performed well. The autonomous emergency braking system contributed to a high score in protecting vulnerable road users.

BYD Europe managing director Michael Shu said customers can trust in the company's commitment to safety.

"The Seal and Dolphin now join the Atto 3 in achieving the highest safety test ratings. That is something to be proud of. "
