KUALA LUMPUR: Chery Auto Malaysia is on track for record-breaking deliveries in Malaysia in 2024, with 3,000 sport utility vehicles (SUVs) delivered in the first two months.
This brings the Chinese marque's deliveries in the country to 7,500 units in the six months since September 2023.
Chery's blistering sales in the country would also see the automaker breaking into the top 10 car marques (by sales volume) this year.
Chery had officially re-launched its return to the country in July last year, and the automaker's remarkable success is thanks to two SUV models, namely the Omoda 5 and Tiggo 8 Pro which make up 80% and 20% of deliveries respectively.
At a recent preview of the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro SUV, Chery Auto Malaysia vice president Lee Wen Hsiang said he was optimistic the company's sales would continue to grow with the launch of new models in 2024.
The Tiggo 7 Pro 5-seater SUV will be priced below RM130,000 and start deliveries at end-May 2024.
Its rivals include the Proton X70, Honda CR-V and Mazda CX-5.
The Tiggo 7 Pro is powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol direct injection (TGDI) engine, generating 197PS and torque of 290Nm and paired to a 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT).
Meanwhile, in March 2024, the company had launched its all-electric Omoda E5 SUV priced at RM146,800.
Warranty is a seven-year/150,000km for the vehicle while the battery gets an eight-year/160,000km coverage.
The Omoda E5's 61kWh lithium iron phosphate Blade battery delivers a 430km (WLTP) range.
To recap, the Omoda 5 comes in an entry-level C-variant at RM108,800 and a range-topping H-variant at RM118,800.
The five-seater Omoda 5 has a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine, mated to a 9-speed continuously variable transmission (CVT), which produces 156PS and maximum torque of 230Nm at 1,750 to 4,500rpm.
The three-row, seven-seater Tiggo 8 Pro is priced at RM159,800 on the road without insurance.
It has a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT), producing 256PS and maximum torque of 390Nm at 2,000 to 4,500rpm.
