KL motorists can use JomParking app

KUALA LUMPUR: Motorists here can use the JomParking mobile app to pay for roadside parking from today.

JomParking was not one of the four apps initially determined by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to pay for roadside parking.

Previously, the four approved apps were EZ Smart Park, Flexiparking, Wilayah Parking and M-Cash.

“DBKL wants to provide the best service to our customers, so we have approved to include the JomParking app as a payment option, ” DBKL said in a statement.

DBKL said the daily and monthly parking passes were still not available on the apps and e-wallets and would be activated after the upgrading of the system.

DBKL is urging the public to familiarise themselves with the new payment method.

Motorists were caught by surprise by DBKL’s decision to switch from the ticketing machines for roadside parking to payment via mobile applications or e-wallets starting Oct 1.

Popular parking apps such as JomParking and Smart Selangor were not included as one of the payment options.

A group of Kuala Lumpur MPs have urged DBKL to consider granting a grace period to motorists by not imposing summonses on vehicles parked on the road.

“Users will need to switch to the new apps, requiring their balance to be transferred or otherwise refunded.

“Those who are not accustomed to using e-wallets will also be affected by the absence of machines to make physical payments, so allowance should be given for them to familiarise themselves, ” the MPs said in a statement.

The group added that as of 2016, there were 46,100 roadside parking bays and 330,000 JomParking users.
