KUALA LUMPUR: Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) Group chairman Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar became the first customer of the new Perodua Myvi, which was launched on Thursday.

The three grand prize winners of the “Myvi 12 Iconic Years Anniversary SMS & Win Contest” were also among the first owners when Perodua gave each of them the keys to the Myvi 1.5 Advance on Friday.

The lucky winners are Chin Mei Ling, 26, Mohd Nasir, 33, and Ong Kok Seng, 60. The Myvi 1.5 Advance retails for RM55,300, on-the-road before insurance.

Abdul Wahid, whose company is an investor in Perodua, said he was delighted to have been the first customer to make the booking and to take delivery of the car. The variant was not disclosed.

The new Myvi is set to be a hot seller for Perodua with total bookings rising to 6,000 units as of 8pm on Friday. The car maker opened the order books for the model on Nov 9. It is available in five variants.

The latest Myvi earned a 5-star Asean NCAP rating on the same day it was launched.

Perodua President and CEO Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh did not say how long the waiting period would be for the Myvi but said the company would maximise delivery of cars to ensure they are delivered speedily to their buyers.

The first-generation Myvi was introduced in 2005 and over a million units have been produced between 2005 and 2017, making it the most popular Perodua model in history. Perodua has produced more than 3.2 million vehicles since August 1994.
