KUALA LUMPUR: Police personnel were hard at work on the first day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri as they focused on Covid-19 standard operating procedure (SOP) compliance.

Federal Internal Security and Public Order Department chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mastor Mohd Ariff, who visited a roadblock in front of EkoCheras Mall today, said a number of senior police officers were making visits to these roadblocks to give moral support to their personnel who were hard at work during the festive season.

"Our personnel will make sure that no one is making any interstate or inter-district travel without approval.

"They will also ensure that motorists who pass through these roadblocks have a valid reason to be out," he told reporters when met at the roadblock.

Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Mohamed Mokhsein Mohamed Zon, who was also present, said a total of 583 compounds were issued between April 13 and May 12.

"The most common offence committed was failure to scan the MySejahtera QR code followed by failure to wear face masks and entertainment outlet related offences.

"Our personnel in Cheras, including those in Mobile Patrol Vehicles, Motorcycle Patrol Units and compliance task force teams, were deployed to all the mosques here that were having Hari Raya prayers.

"After that, they also patrolled neighbourhoods to ensure visits or open houses were not being organised," he said, adding that his personnel would also patrol areas frequented by foreigners during public holidays to ensure there were no large gatherings.

On roadblocks, ACP Mokhsein said all the OCPDs in Kuala Lumpur have received a directive from Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Azmi Abu Kassim to ensure personnel were organised and knew their roles when on duty at roadblocks.

"Our roadblocks here will have four personnel manning two lanes at all times to ensure smooth flowing traffic.

"We will also have one staff member manning the lane for frontliners and emergencies," he said, adding that vehicles which were flagged to pull over would then be checked by others on duty as well as Armed Forces personnel.

He said this would be the SOP at roadblocks to ensure everything was run in an organised manner.
