THERE is a new kid in town who is crashing the continental luxury premium sedan segment party and it is none other than the Volvo S90 T5.

Built on the new Scalable Product Architecture (SPA), the S90 represents a strong challenge to the traditional premium segment with its distinctly Scandinavian idea of luxury – a proposition achieved through the use of natural materials, ergonomic and purposeful design with cutting-edge technological innovations.

The S90 will carry the proud and confident face of Volvo’s new design language, along with classic Volvo styling cues.

Some of its key features include the ‘Thor’s Hammer’ LED headlight design, new grille and Volvo Iron Mark.

“Volvo’s idea was to offer something entirely different to this rather conservative segment and deliver a visual expression that exudes confidence on the exterior while delivering a high-end luxury experience in the interior,” said Lennart Stegland, the managing director of Volvo Car Malaysia.

The S90 has taken big strides in terms of driving dynamics, performance and ride.

Volvo has completely re-engineered the driving experience from the ground up to offer customers a greater sense of precision, engagement, control and comfort.

Volvo has been in the forefront of passenger safety and the new S90 is no different as it offers the IntelliSafe Assist as standard.

This includes Adaptive Cruise Control and Distance Alert and the advanced semi-autonomous drive feature, Pilot Assist.

Pilot Assist is another step towards full autonomous drive – a key innovation area for Volvo.

This smart feature gives gentle steering input to keep the car aligned within lane markings up to speeds of around 130kph and no longer needs to follow the car ahead.

Included in this Intellisafe package is Volvo’s City Safety, an advanced Automatic Emergency Braking system that could detect and mitigate collisions with pedestrians, cyclists, and large animals.

Volvo also paid particular attention to design as evident with its striking looks.

The exterior conveys gorgeous proportions and the dimensions are longer and wider than its competitors.

The S90 T5 is equipped with a turbocharged engine producing 254hp at 5,500rpm, delivering a maximum torque of 350Nm from 1,500rpm – 4,800rpm to the front wheels.

Underpinning the S90 T5 is the Dynamic Chassis which uses a combination of a double-wishbone for the front and a transverse leaf spring for the rear suspensions which provides precise handling while retaining comfort.

The S90 T5 is priced at RM388,888 (on-the-road without insurance, inclusive of GST).

You can choose between Onyx Black, Ice White, Osmium Grey and Bright Silver, and Mussel Blue for the exterior, and three interior upholstery colours which includes Charcoal, Amber, and Blond in combination with two inlay options: Iron Ore or Dark Flame Birch.
