TOYOTA CITY: Toyota has earned the highest safety rating under the 2016 Japan New Car Assessment Program (JNCAP) Preventive Safety Performance Assessment for the Crown and Prius which are fitted with its Toyota Safety Sense P collision avoidance support package, as well as the Lexus GS and RX which are fitted with the Lexus Safety System +.

The four models received ASV++ rating, the highest rating that was newly established in 2016 JNCAP. Automatic braking evaluation to support collision avoidance which target pedestrians during daytime was added to the conventional performance assessments, and the ASV++ rating can be attained by vehicles that obtain high scores.

Toyota and Lexus plan to roll out such safety features to a wider range of models.

Around 37% of traffic fatalities in Japan involve pedestrians. To prevent fatal pedestrian-related traffic accidents, from 2015 onwards, Toyota rolled out the Toyota Safety Sense P and Lexus Safety System + packages respectively to support collision prevention targeting vehicles and pedestrians.

These packages have been fitted onto nine models within Japan, and there are plans to successively increase the number of models fitted with these packages.

Toyota is developing safer vehicles and technologies based on its Integrated Safety Management concept, an approach that gives direction to safety technology and vehicle development. Toyota is also pressing forward with measures that integrate people, vehicles, and the traffic environment so as to contribute to the elimination of traffic fatalities and injuries.
