MUNICH: The BMW 2-Series gets a new stablemate with the introduction of a drop-top version, while the German marque’s X5 M and X6 M gets dressed in M Performance parts.

After the introduction of the 1-Series convertible and 130,000 units sold worldwide, BMW will now be using the 2-Series as the successor to the company’s most popular open-top premium model in this vehicle class.

BMW’s entry into the premium compact segment first saw the introduction of the 1-Series and then decided to seal off the two rear doors, stretched it a little more and slapped a 2 Series badge on it.

The powered fabric top takes 20sec to complete its operation at the push of a button – even at speeds of up to 50kph, and comes standard in Black with the option of having it in either Anthracite or Brown with silver effect.

Additionally, depending on the variant, the 2-Series has access to personalisation options via Advantage, Luxury Line, Sport Line and M Sport options, which provides specific exterior, interior and equipment features.
