KUALA LUMPUR: BMW Malaysia today introduced the locally assembled variant of the X7 xDrive40i Pure Excellence.
It is priced at RM673,323.61, offering a big savings of RM188,523 from the CBU unit. Price is on the road, without insurance and without Sales and Services Tax until June 30. The 740Le xDrive M Sport was launched alongside the X7 today and is priced at RM591,503.05.
Both models are the latest additions to BMW Malaysia’s extensive portfolio of locally assembled cars in Kulim, Kedah. They are also the first cars rolled out under the watch of newly appointed BMW Group Malaysia managing director Hans de Visser.
The locally assembled X7 retains its bold design. The massive front with the imposing kidney grille and slender BMW Laserlight headlights lends road presence to the vehicle. The headlights can illuminate up to 600 metres ahead. The front also comes with LED fog lights and high-beam assistant.
From the side, the near-vertical shoulder line visually elongates the X7 from the front to rear – with large windows and a long flowing roofline that hints at a spacious interior. The CKD X7 gets 21-inch light alloy wheels wrapped with run-flat tyres and has a fully-electric tailgate with Comfort Access function, and two large, rectangular tailpipes.
The 7-seat X7 is driven by a 3.0-litre six-cylinder in-line turbocharged petrol engine producing peak power of 340hp and peak torque of 450Nm. This results in a century sprint in 6.1 seconds. Official combined fuel consumption is 9.5l/100km.
Power is directed to all four wheels via an eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission.The X7 comes standard with two-axle air suspension. Working wit the DSC system, the vehicle load registered by the air suspension sensors can be factored into braking modulation.
Like the imported variant, the locally assembled version is offered with Executive Drive Pro with active roll stabilisation.
The cabin features luxuriously looking “Crafted Clarity” handmade diamond-cut trim elements and a range of standard equipment including a sport leather steering wheel and electrically adjustable Comfort seats.
The BMW Live Cockpit Professional with BMW Operating System 7.0 combines the fully digital, user-configurable 12.3-inch instrument cluster with an equally large central Control Display with touchscreen functionality. The X7 is also fitted with the voice-controlled BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, BMW Gesture Control and BMW Head-Up Display.
Other highlights include the Sky Lounge panoramic roof, soft-close doors, Welcome Light Carpet feature, five-zone air conditioning, BMW Digital Key, wireless charging, a Harman Kardon Surround Sound System with 16 speakers and electric roller blinds for side windows. The Rear Entertainment Professional system is also available for the locally assembled variant.
With backrests folded down, luggage space can be expanded up to 2,120 litres.
As is expected from a higher-end BMW model, the X7 is loaded with various electronic driving aids to make driving safer, convenient and easier.
Standard kit are Reversing Assistant and Driving Assistant that includes Lane Departure Warning, Lane Change Warning and Front Collision Warning with brake intervention.
Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function and all-wheel steering further enhances safety and comfort on the go.
Five colour choices are offered with selected interior complements.
Black Sapphire and Sophisto Grey come in Cognac Leather Vernasca upholstery with Black design perforations, while Phytonic Blue and Manhattan Metallic exteriors come complete with an all-Black design-perforated Leather Vernasca interior. Leather Vernasca in Coffee with Black design perforations comes exclusively with the Mineral White body colour.
“After the extensive introduction of many high-profile locally assembled vehicles in the past year – including the 218i Gran Coupé, the 330e M Sport, and the M340i xDrive – this move to localise the assembly of one of our largest models in the X range further demonstrates our longstanding confidence in Malaysia’s potential as a regional hub for the luxury automobile segment,” said de Visser.
Like the 740Le, the new X7 will show up at BMW dealerships nationwide from May 8. Online bookings will only open from May 11.
