PETALING JAYA:  There’s a new sporty Vespa in town and it’s none other than the 150cc Vespa Sprint, the successor to the Vespa S.

With its chic and sporty design, the Sprint harks back to the generation of sporty Vespas from the 1960s and 1970s and preserves the vintage aesthetic characteristics such as the sporty saddle accentuated by a black cover with a white line finish and signature square headlamp.

While looking to the past for inspiration, contemporary features are also abound in the new Sprint such as LED daytime running lights, multifunction digital display and redesigned 12in aluminium alloy rims.

The Sprint is powered by 150cc, single cylinder 4-stroke engine with three valves mated to an automatic CVT transmission, single overhead cam and electronic fuel injection. It produces 11.6hp with a maximum torque of 12Nm.

The unique three-valve architecture makes the scooter lighter and more fuel efficient than most conventional two-valve engines as it achieves 64km/L at an average speed of 50kph.

“The Vespa Sprint is a welcome addition to the local line-up of Vespa scooters and we hope bike-loving Malaysians will take this opportunity to experience what the Sprint has to offer,” said Naza Group of Companies, group executive chairman and group chief executive officer, Datuk Wira SM Faisal Tan Sri SM Nasimuddin.

Also present at the event were Naza Premira Sdn Bhd vice president II, Farouk Faisal and Piaggio Asia Pacific area sales manager, Neru Miclaus.

The Vespa Sprint is priced at RM15,617 with two years manufacturer’s warranty or 20,000km (whichever comes first) and is available in six colours: Montebianco (white), Rosso Dragon (red), Grigio Titanio (grey), Blu Midnight (dark blue), yellow and orange.

Naza Premira also announced the Vespa Assist service, supported by AAM bikers assist, which offers 24/7 breakdown assistance, free-towing services (depending on zones), minor on-the-spot repair services, AAM Motor Insurance and Vehicle Inspection and Valuation services among others.

New Vespa owners who register their bikes from April 1 onwards are entitled to free Vespa Assist for one year.
