WATCH: What happens when you press Start/Stop engine button while driving

Update:
The same routine was also tested on the Volvo S90 with same result. Note that the S90 uses a twist ignition button on the centre console instead of a push button. Both cars were assessed on a private driveway before the video was shot on a public road.

PETALING JAYA: CarSifu recently got hold of the latest Kia Optima.

This is the refreshed Optima EX that was launched in Malaysia in late March, joining the more powerful turbocharged Optima GT. They are priced at RM139,888 and RM169,888 respectively.

With more new cars getting Start/Stop button as standard equipment, we wondered what would occur if the Start/Stop button was pressed while the car is moving.

It would be interesting to see what happens, wouldn't it? Yeah, we know some YouTubers have done this before. We, however, wanted to see first-hand for ourselves especially on a car of our own choosing.

Would the engine go dead suddenly? Would the safety features in the car kick in and prevent the engine from switching off? Bear in mind that different car brands and models may exhibit different responses.

We did a quick press of the button followed by a long press.

The video clip shows the outcome on the Optima.
